Homeless Awareness Week was developed to encourage a broad base of advocacy on homelessness issues through education. The group was developed in response to the rising numbers of community members being homeless.
In the region of Waterloo, 2,831 individuals accessed emergency shelter services in 2007. Approximately 3,500 households representing 9,000 individuals in the Waterloo region waiting for subsidized housing.
